When they were sold as tools, nobody considered them as our fellow humans. It was their poverty and backwardness that made them unable to fight against. So far as we can see, similar tragedies happened again and again throughout the history of humanity. In the final analysis, the reason is that we human beings lack a sense of sympathy towards aliens, especially when they are much weaker than us. So do extraterrestrials, who might be mush stronger than us. By rights, having a so good understanding of human history and human nature, we should know how dangerous to contact with another strange civilization, and keep us away from that danger.
